This may be the most misunderstood concept regarding vacuum cleaner filtration. First of all let me explain... HEPA is a standard, a way of categorizing what particle size a filter is capable of filtering out.

HEPA is an acronym for High Efficiency Particulate Air. It is an important feature to consider when purchasing your vacuum cleaner. Especially if you are concerned about allergies or Asthma.

The HEPA standard demands that 99.97% of all particles must be captured by the filter. Dust mites, Pollen, dead skin (all allergens) are included in this classification.

A large range of vacuum cleaners available for sale today include HEPA filtration.

There are 2 classes of filters. S-Class and C-Class.

S-Class HEPA filters.

These are the most common class of HEPA filter. S-Class filters are tested in batches at a relatively low air flow. Technically it's a HEPA but you must read the maintenance instructions provided by your vacuum cleaner manufacturer to ensure performance is kept at an optimal level.

C-Class HEPA filters.

C-Class HEPA filters are individually tested. Each filter is given a certification number. These filters are made from more expensive materials and, in the most part, work with greater efficiency for a longer period of time.

Please ensure that you read your vacuum cleaner instruction manual when changing vacuum cleaner filter.

Vacuum cleaner bags should be changed regularly to help your filter work better for longer.
